It’s a trope as old as time. Data Science, Analytics & AI professionals and many more are said to have arisen from the shadows swiftly and suddenly.
One day, a programmer is sitting in a tiny apartment, cramming in the early morning hours to meet a deadline. The next day, he/she designs software and is a millionaire. Or is he/she? Are scenarios such as this one even possible?
Here’s what’s really behind the “overnight success”:
Vision. Most experts who find “sudden” success have been pursuing their vision for decades. They might not have worked on a particular project, but they could have worked on dozens of other projects aimed at resolving a particular problem.
Learning. Lifelong learning is a staple trait of successful people. For one to become a successful tech expert, they need to become an expert first. This entails years and even decades of studying and learning.
Effort. To do your job well takes an amount of average effort. It will help you advance in life and put food on your table. But groundbreaking success entails constant effort in pursuing learning and working opportunities. It extends past the work hours and distinguishes passion from average work.
Planning. Those with innovative ideas are often pursuing a carefully designed career path. It’s incredibly rare for a person to become extraordinarily successful outside their field. Most often, people succeed in the areas they worked hard in with a thought-out set of goals and tasks to pursue.
